Match report A tense, close-fought win over league leaders, Shipston saw Leamington III take an important stride towards Premier Division safety. Shipston batted first and made steady progress, but kept in check by a skipper Dale’s thoughtful permutations of his bowlers. From a high-point of 152-2 after 31 overs the innings subsided as wickets fell at regular intervals, dragging down the run rate with them. A run out brought the innings to a close at 199. Will Field (4-47) was the most successful bowler. Joe Somra (40) and Rob Ainscow (37) got the Leamington reply off to a good start with a stand of 73 in 20 overs, following which David Lord (36) and Jake Salmon (32) made good progress until they were dismissed in successive overs leaving Leamington stuttering at 179-5 in the 41st over. 20 needed of the last four overs, then 15 off 3 and 10 off 2. Matt Sellar’s pull for four in the penultimate over tilted the balance, leaving 2 needed from the final over and partner Matt Dale the pleasure of hitting the winning run for the second week running. 22 points gained and mid-table safety reached!
