Ashton under Hill 2nd XI v Leamington Cricket Club 4th XI on Sat 01 Aug 2015 at 13.30
Leamington Cricket Club Won By 8 wickets
Match report
Maybe the shock of batting first contributed to probably the worst fielding and bowling performance of Leamington's season and allowed Ashton to reach 245 in their 45 overs. Perhaps the Spa side were unsettled by the loss of the old boy talisman Rob Ainscow who left the field early after a painful blow to the knee.
Leatherdale with 3 wickets was probably the pick of the Spa bowlers, although young Will Mobberley bowled tidily and the evergreen veteran Shaun Williams bowled his 10 overs for 44. A total of 27 wides and 7 No Balls certainly did not help the Leamington cause.
What lacked in the fielding was certainly made up for in the batting. An excellent well paced and correctly played 97 not out by Lee Credgington was backed up by a belligerent 81 from Matt Leatherdale. A typically aggressive 29 from Henry Mortimer at the end saw Leamington home with 3 overs to spare and maintained their strong position as league leaders. The only downside at the end being 4 overthrows to finish the game leaving Credgington 3 short of a maiden ton that would have been so well deserved.
